What's Up With DevCorp North?
DevCorp waits until the day before the event to promote the Bastille Day party over at Taste. Check the posting date, I am not making this up! I'm sorry but even I, a person of limited marketing skills, understands the value of getting your message out early and often. THE DAY BEFORE?! Come on! DevCorp was the sole beneficiary of the take at the door at $20/person. This is the best they can do to promote an event that they benefit from?! When I retire I think I'll apply for a job at DevCorp. I sure as hell can do a better job than that!!

For the record, I only got a 24 hour notice myself. But there's more to this nasty little story. I'll be glad to fill you in when all details come together. Thanks for paying attention to the issue.
Despite the late announcement, I heard 200 people showed. Seems like the neighborhood is dying for places like this.
I spoke to a real estate agent from Evanston who believes RP is needing stores like Taste. I don't know how many were there, but when I left Gruppo after 8 the sidewalk in front was packed. I'd bet it was busy inside too where they were pouring the wine.
It was a total success. If I knew that it benefited DevCorp North I would not have gone.
Maybe that's why they were so slow to promote it? Recognized that it could be a liability?
People were lining up for the TASTE event at 5pm kick-off, and it was jam packed by 6pm until much later. I went, had a great time, and met lots of good neighbors. I thought the $20 was to benefit low-income families?
The Bastille Day flyer clearly states the following:
All proceeds will benefit Devcorp whose mission is to provide scholarships for low income families in Rogers Park for bilingual computer training programs. (emphasis mine)
Does it benefit low income families? Not according to the way this is written. If that is not what Devcorp meant, then they can fire whoever writes their flyers and hire me. I'd do a much better job.

Who knows why Devcorp didn't bother to promote this properly? The team at Taste didn't seem to miss it. These people are professionals and I doubt they need Devcorp's advice on how to do promotion. The place was SRO. Anyone can get on Taste's mailing list through their website.
Kheris, I got a kick out the your suggestion that Devcorp avoided doing promotion because being associated with them would be a commercial liability. A better argument for a complete reorganization of Devcorp is hard to imagine...
I signed up as a "Tastebud" now that I have the link to their site. I agree that Taste could have done this by themselves. I tell ya, I'm going to apply for a job at DevCorp when I retire.
