Theatrics

I love Stage Left Theater. They have been around 25 years and I have been going for about half of that time. They are in the middle of LeapFest 4, which is the staging of plays developed by folks working with Stage Left. This year's crop is pretty interesting, and I was at First Night to see scenes from them. The ones that stuck with me and I want to see:

The Day of Knowledge, about the return of children to a Russian school after a massacre by terrorists. In the scene the mother, a doctor, recounts seeing purple and white balloons from the school floating into the sky after hearing 'firecrackers'. She didn't find out until later it was gunfire. Her son was killed.

Grayville, about Grayville, IL and the goings on. In the scene, uptight parents (very 60's) are shocked when daughter announces she and live-in boyfriend of 6 years are tying the knot. A lively discussion about the wedding ensues, during which the parental units are rocked on their heels by the announcement that it will be a "naked, vegan, Satanic" affair presided over by a Satanic priestess. Much hilarity and the audience was rolling.

Endangered, about a burned out attorney and his last case, an African-American gangbanger accused of murder. Very intense scene.

Will have to juggle the old schedule for this. But it should be fun.

So there! I do get out and about!
