Ready for Taste?

Back in January I posted regarding the community meeting about a new business; the wine and cheese shop Taste. I said at the time:

The consensus is to go forward. Joe figured it would come out that way so already introduced the ordinance to lift the moratorium. Had the group been opposed he would have tabled it.

I found the entry of the ordinance.

Referred -- AMENDMENT OF TITLE 4, CHAPTER 60, SECTION 023
OF MUNICIPAL CODE OF CHICAGO BY DELETION OF SUBSECTION 49.6 WHICH RESTRICTED ISSUANCE OF ADDITIONAL PACKAGE GOODS LICENSES ON PORTIONS OF NORTH ROGERS AVENUE AND WEST JARVIS AVENUE.

Also, a proposed ordinance to amend Title 4, Chapter 60, Section 023 of the Municipal Code of Chicago by deleting subsection 49.6 which restricted the issuance of additional package goods licenses on portions of North Rogers Avenue, from West Birchwood Avenue to North Paulina Street and on West Jarvis Avenue, from North Greenview Avenue to North Ashland Avenue, which was Referred to the Committee on License and Consumer Protection.

Now I had heard that possibly the ordinance had been held up due to Aldermanic unhappiness with Dan Sullivan, but that does not appear to be the case (see page 22 - PDF warning):

Your Committee on License and Consumer Protection, having under consideration an ordinance introduced by Alderman Joe Moore (which was referred on January 11,2007) to amend Section 4-60-023 of the Municipal Code of Chicago by deleting subsection 4-60-023 (49.6), begs leave to recommend that Your Honorable Body Pass the ordinance which is transmitted herewith. This recommendation was concurred in by a viva voce vote of the members of the Committee on February 2, 2007.

Respectfully submitted,
(Signed) GENE SCHULTER,
Chairman.

So, while I am no fan of the current Alderman, he did make good on his word and introduced the ordinance amendment, which was passed. Now if there is some other issue standing between Taste and a May opening, I don't know what it is, but please point this data driven wonk at it and I'll see what I can find out.

Me too! Although I did hear there was a delay in the works and it was claimed the ordinance had not been passed. That is clearly not the case, so if in fact a delay develops it will have to be for other reasons.

I don't know when exactly in May they will open, but I have a nice cabinet on order with a wine rack, which of course will need to be filled!!!!

Nice work, nice post, I really respect that you admitted the accusation was a mistake. I'm reading your blog. Alot of it is over my head. I really beleive it needs to be taken down a level. Alot of people aren't as educated as you. It's difficult reading and I'm frustrated that I'm not understanding alot of it. Maybe that's why you aren't getting many comments. I'm entering this world of blogging to learn and I'm excited that you are prolific with your posts. I'll keep reading.

I didn't accuse anyone of anything, what I did do was relay that I was hearing the new store might be delayed and the reason was the ordinance change wasn't done. So I did some fact checking, and found what I reported. If there is a delay I don't know what the reason would be.
