See How She Runs

So Governor Palin is stepping down. Interesting. Commenters all over ponder whether she is gearing up for a run in 2012 for the White House. Supposedly she wants to be more engaged with the party on a national level. Perhaps but there may be a more mundane reason: a rumored federal investigation leading to a potentially career ending indictment. Whether or not this turns out to be true is of course unknown. Regardless, it is evocative of the speculation that will continue until something definite is confirmed. There is a rumored book deal, and many hope she will find a home on FOX. Whatever the truth may be, I would bet we have not seen the last of Sarah Palin.

I believe we've seen the last of her as a serious political player. Where we will be seeing her is on talk shows.

There's no way she can politically survive this. She pulled a "Ross Perot" on the electorate of Alaska, that simple. She looks like what she is, a lightweight who doesn't have a serious thought in her head. People out here are thinking, would she just resign from the vice-presidency if it became too stressful and boring?

And the loopy statements she made to justify herself don't help her. "I could just plod along being Alaska's governor, but that would be being a quitter." HUH??

And if the rumor that is circulating, which is that she might be facing indictment, is true, than she's really over.

That we haven't heard the last of her, I feel very sure. But she won't be speaking as the next presidential candidate, I'm sure.

I agree she'll be on TV, probably FOX. Eugene Robinson wrote about this at the Washington Post and I believe the upshot is that she's going to become, yet, another pundit. As far as the alleged investigation is concerned, the FBI commented on the record that they are not investigating her. On the other hand, apparently Alaskans are using the new ethics law she signed to initiate ethics complaints against Palin. These, and the ongoing media attention, appear to be the real reason behind her departure.

No matter how she spins it, she quit and she bowed to Truman's famous maxim: If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
