Sally Duros and Blogging

Back at the beginning of May I heard about Sally Duros' interest in the bloggers of RP, however my travel schedule kept me out of the lineup. I regretted it at the time, but having read her article today I consider myself extraordinarily lucky. Here is what I emailed to her (I hope) Sun-times addy:

Greetings

I read your column regarding the bloggiest nabe, specifically Rogers Park. As one of the bloggers in contact with Tom Mannis and hoping to participate in the interview, I was disappointed that my travel schedule kept me out of the lineup. Now that I have read your column I am grateful to God that I was not included. The marginalization of the bloggers you spoke to is evident to any who are paying attention.

I suppose you don't have much to do as Real Estate and Homelife Editor. It is clear to me that, at the very least, your purpose in life at the Sun-Times is to provide amusement for the unwashed, semi-literate masses. Or perhaps that is what you, and the Sun-Times editorial board, think of the RP bloggers.

Well, I don't see it that way at all. And one day perhaps you will come to recognize that the folks who are blogging away actually do have a point to make, even if you are too busy dodging reality to recognize it. My personal issue is peak oil, which the mainstream media (MSM) (of which you are a member) seems unable to grasp as a real threat. Much easier to focus on Ms. USA's fall at the Ms. Universe contest than to deal with real world issues.

At the very least I have been reminded that dealing with the MSM is a double-edged sword. I will be much less eager to participate the next time you come calling for an article.

Call me a hard case, tell me I lack a sense of humor, say what you will, Ms. Duros wasn't interested in anything other than fluff, and fluff is what we got.

We got fluff and we also got insults. She disparaged Toni, Tom, and the others, and her insults were not subtle. Her characterization of the area as a place where "the badges of success are a beret, nicotine poisoning, and lifetime unemployment" was proof that she came to her interview with our bloggers with her head stuffed with preconceived notions and social stereotypes derived from watching too much television and reading too much cruddy "yellow" media, like the Sun Times, for example.

Kheris, you and other bloggers were certainly missed. But the interview I'll give you for my video project will be whatever you want to say? You game?
