Obama and Quiet Riots

I read the exchange at RPB regarding Obama's speech at Hampton University to a gathering of black ministers. After looking at what both parties had to say, I decided this was one time when a transcript was a must before wading in with my dos centavos. I'd rather be 'thought' a fool than 'known' to be one.

I found the video of it. I also found a written transcript, which was not followed in its entirety. Specifically, Obama left out lots of references to what he has done, and was planning to do.

Focusing on what remained and was recorded, I find I can't agree with Scott Rogers assessment. I think Scott didn't see the video or read a transcript (whether planned or actual delivery). The key metaphor here is not the 'riots' remark, but the reference to 'take the bullet out.' This was a call to action, not a call to go into the streets and riot. This was not Bush bashing, but a reminder that the fundamental problems that dog the black community remain, and Obama is calling on those ministers to step forward and help 'take the bullet out.' It's an idea that goes beyond the black community, and certainly applies to any community that has issues.
