The Saturday Meet Up

What a lovely day to meet and greet folks I had only met via the blogs!

What became clear is that I was operating at around 20-30K feet above the rest of the group, who reeled me in like a kite on a string.

There are 3 major ideas at work:
1 - Organize folks into a working team focused on community issues and, in due time, seeing if there is a candidate the group wants to get behind at the next election.

2 - Identify what really matters. The election brought up crime, economic development, the lakefront, schools, and parking. This is where my obsession with data comes into play - how do we describe what really matters and what a successful outcome looks like for any of these? I'd like to baseline that and watch for deviations.

3 - We can't be talking heads, we have to act.

The next meeting has to be set and I will be consulting with those who expressed an interest to me via email and/or showed up yesterday regarding date/time/location. Jocelyn made a very generous offer to host!

I am also exploring the setup of a Yahoo list for this group and should know more by tomorrow if doing one makes sense. I'll post details here about it.

The meeting lasted about an hour and half, after which we came across Don Gordon and spouse, talking a stroll by the lake. Necessary R&R considering the campaign and its aftermath.

I hope to see more folks the next time around, and to make real progress in setting our focus and then sallying forth to do good work!

Count me in for the next meeting. I was running a native plant sale this weekend but I wished I was here instead.
