It's a cluster all right

From Kunstler's Clusterfuck Nation, his latest outlook on life. It features, among other comments, feedback by Laura L and myself. It also demonstrates just how fouled up we are in terms of getting to the facts. One poster notes that there are folks in the South who think Obama is a Black Muslim. Shall we thank Hillary for that bit of confusion? Or whoever it was that put that nonsense out on the web? If people have missed the boat on that piece of verifiable information, what else are they missing.

I also saw an article, don't have the link handy, about Americans' view of global warming/climate change. Evidently as a group we see it as a distant oncoming event that will have moderate impact on our lives. If the Greenland ice sheet melts off completely that could change our outlook, but since it hasn't why worry?

Happy Motoring!

Kheris, the sick part is that our local community is so rich in resources that could enable us to survive well and have a viable, local economy and retain many technological amenities in Kunstler's Long Emergency, but we are squandering our considerable physical and financial capital on projects that are directing vast amounts of money away from these things and into projects that won't enhance our lives one bit in the difficult times to come.

Why is our "Great Green Augustus", who postures as a greenie, starving our transit and forcing us to make costly, unnecessary tradeoffs in order to obtain the minimal improvements and expansion of our rail system? Why are we not aggressively building a wireless network that could handle internet and voice communications when power becomes expensive and unreliable and further landline buildout prohibitive? Why are we not trying to attract major manufacturing back to the city? And why, Oh, WHY are we not trying to reverse this city's excessive dependence upon natural gas?

What scares me the most is that our top political leaders seem to more concerned with planning for their own cushy exits from a country that they feel will be collapsing into complete civil breakdown, rather than doing the things responsible leaders must do to make sure that the country can function.

We are now led, as a country and possibly as a city, by people who no longer identify as members of the polity at large ,but who consider themselves to be a seperate and vastly more elevated caste that has the right to rape the population and leave it destitute of resources in order to insulate themselves from the consequences of 80 years of spectacular waste and lack of planning.
